"Scattered across the bloodlines of our enemies. Growing there anyway."
The signal has gone out. The scattered ones are waking up.
Three people left the Stillground this morning and separated into three directions—Sable east into Terric territory, Dessa south into the Igni ash lands, Zaren north into the floating cities of Aeros—each carrying a piece of the work that will undo two thousand years of suppression.
What they are doing is called the undoing. Two territories at a time, the frequency that was suppressed is returning to the bloodlines that have been carrying it without knowing what they carried.
There is a truth that will find its way to Sable before this territory's work is done: a truth about her mother, about a birth that produced two daughters instead of one, and about a sister she has never known was taken from her on the day they were both born.
The Accord knows the signal went out. It is moving toward them. The Quiet Choir is moving toward them too, for different reasons.
And in the Stillground, Mama Vor is tending three fires, waiting for news, and allowing herself—for the first time in two thousand years—to use the word almost.
The Dispersed is the second book of The Ether Chronicles: the story of what it costs to do the necessary thing in public, and what a territory looks like when the people in it start to know what they are.
